Coalhouse Fort

Coalhouse fort is one of my favourite ‘abandoned places’. Surrounded by people enjoying their relaxation the fort and it’s blockworks exude a quiet loneliness as they look out over the often bleak estuary. Like so much of our heritage it needs to be preserved as a memorial to the quiet stoicism of those who defended this island in war ravaged times, and as monument to those who sweated even further back in time to build security in concrete and steel.
